The Open Carry with Training Act

The new “Open Carry with Training” Act was signed into law by Gov. Henry McMaster on May 17, South Carolina residents who hold a Concealed Weapons Permit (CWP) will soon be able to openly carry handguns in the state.

What has changed?
  •  SC will now be considered a 2nd Amendment Sanctuary State
  • There is no longer a $50 Fee to apply for the CWP
  • SC CWP holders can openly carry a concealable weapon on them or in their car. Unless there is a sign stating otherwise.
What has stayed the same?
  • CWP holders must still respect public or private business or employers that prohibiting carrying of a weapon
What is considered a Concealable weapon?

a firearm having a length of less than twelve inches measured along its greatest dimension.
